Even though the process is long, electric vehicles are slowly taking a good position in the market.

According to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association, registrations of electric vehicles in Europe have increased by more than 48% per year since 2016.

On the rise

If we continue to move in this direction, in 2025 there will be around 2 million electric vehicles on Spanish roads.

Commitment

Spain has made a commitment to Brussels to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 26% by 2030 and between 80% and 95% by 2050.

By 2020, there have to be around 300,000 electric vehicles in use and 11.000 fast and ultra-fast charging stations (which allow batteries to be charged at 80% in 20 minutes). Around 2030, the number has to be much higher: in order to achieve the objectives that have been stablished by the EU, there will have to be between 4 and 6 million electric vehicles in use and around 50,000 charging stations by then.

AUTONOMY

Currently, there are available models with 40 kWh Lithium-Ion batteries with roughly 350 km of autonomy. Models of between 60 and 75 kWh that will exceed 400 km of autonomy will soon be available. Now there are models with autonomy of up to 540 km.

COST

Currently, electric vehicles are still quite expensive, but, such fact can be reversed if the cost of batteries is reduced considerably.

However, renowned companies have recently announced that they will soon start selling middle-range electric vehicles for less than €20,000

CHARGING NETWORK

The European Union reminds us that public charging points and home chargers are not enough. They insist on creating an efficient charging infrastructure that covers long distances, which will allow cars to have more autonomy. Therefore, it will reduce the stress of running out of battery.

ENERGY

It is estimated that the daily electricity demand could increase by 20-25% if all vehicles in Spain were electric.

Rafael Sánchez, head of industrial analysis studies in Endesa, claims that all vehicles in Spain (more than 28 million) could be supplied with energy if the charging process were smartly carried out.
